Be careful what you wish for!
New member, Ben, was honest with me at least, once I’d tracked him down and finally got him to talk with me.
“Yeah, sorry to be evasive, Paul. I’ve been avoiding you on purpose. You know when I told you I needed accountability? Well, I do, but I don’t like it. Haha, it’s just easier to coast. And I hate the feeling of letting you down when I’m not doing my workouts or following the nutrition plan. Sorry, brother. But that’s the God’s honest truth.”
OK, that was refreshing and a little disappointing.
You’re probably gonna tell me that you need and want accountability, that you won’t stay consistent on your own. You may have a long trail of failed attempts and false starts to prove that to be true.
But do you really? With nobody holding you accountable, you can continue to coast and avoid the pressure that comes from that accountability.
Sadly, nothing will change.
Nor will it ever until you acknowledge that you are no longer willing to tolerate your current circumstances.
Until you do, you will remain stuck.
Sadly, I’ve lost a good friend because of this, a pal of almost 40 years. He invested in our program, completed a few days' worth of work, and then vanished for three months. I had to persistently pester him to get him to talk with me. It bummed me out, made worse by the coolness of the relationship now.
Listen, I don’t want to take one dollar from you if you’re not going to jump in headfirst and take on the challenge and accountability with enthusiasm and commitment.
So, if your spidey senses are telling you that you’ll pull a Ben on me, save your money. Put it in your kid’s 529 or your IRA, whatever, or go to Vegas and blow it all on blackjack. But please don’t buy any more dumb sh*t like the treadmill in your basement that has become a clothes rack.
But… if you are ready to make lasting and transformational change, willing to do the work, continue to show up for yourself even when you’re not feeling at your best, and eager to communicate and collaborate, then heck yeah, let’s talk.
I can’t wait to help keep you stay accountable and consistent. And I can’t wait to see the progress and momentum you’ll build!
