What’s the best exercise for back pain?

You’ll probably be surprised to learn that it’s NOT stretching.

The humble Bird Dog is one of the best exercises we can do to both prevent back injuries and alleviate back pain.

What’s the big deal? At some point in life, everyone will have back pain. Most will incur some kind of injury, especially if we’re really active and involved in athletics or vigorous outdoor endeavors.

The Bird Dog can help. It’s one of the “McGill Big Three”. Dr. Stuart McGill is one of the world’s most renowned researchers of back injuries and rehab. He uses and teaches the Bird Dog to help prevent and recover from back injuries.

It’s a very simple movement. And remarkably effective. I do these before EVERY heavy lower-body lift.

However, not everyone does these well. Want coaching points on proper form and how to get the most out of them? Cool, check out this YouTube I put together with detailed coaching points on optimal form and how to build them into your training program.
